About the MemSQL JDBC driver

A JDBC driver is a Java .jar library that lets applications connect to MemSQL. DbSchema uses JDBC to reverse engineer schemas, run SQL, and generate documentation. Driver files are usually published by the database vendor or an open-source project.

Host, port, database name, and SSL options are passed in a URL starting with jdbc:. Each MemSQL driver uses its own syntax — see the connection details below.

MemSQL is now SingleStore — a distributed SQL database combining in-memory rowstore tables for real-time transactions with on-disk columnstore tables for large-scale analytics. Its MySQL-compatible interface makes migration from MySQL straightforward.

The driver archive is a zip file. Extract it and load the .jar files using DbSchema's Driver Manager.

Connecting to a MemSQL Cluster

Connect to an aggregator node, not to a leaf. Port 3306 serves client connections and the cluster's internal traffic alike.

1. Point the host at an aggregator. The master aggregator accepts DDL as well as queries; a leaf node will not do ordinary client work.
2. Grant the user access from your host. Accounts are a user and a host together, as in MySQL, so one created for localhost cannot log in from your machine.
3. Open port 3306 in the server's firewall. The database listens on port 3306 unless it was installed with a different one. A host firewall on the server blocks incoming connections on that port until a rule allows them. The firewall guide has the commands for Windows, ufw, firewalld and iptables.
4. Connect from DbSchema. In the Connection Dialog choose Remote computer or custom port, fill in the server host and the port, then press Test Connection to check that the server answers before you connect.

Restrict the firewall rule to the addresses that need it — the same port carries traffic between the cluster's own nodes.
