Download Filemaker JDBC Driver

Download the Filemaker JDBC driver, copy the JDBC URL into DbSchema, and start designing schemas with ER diagrams — free Community Edition.

Connect Filemaker in DbSchema Install the driver, open a connection, reverse engineer your schema, and sync changes visually.

About the Filemaker JDBC driver

A JDBC driver is a Java .jar library that lets applications connect to Filemaker. DbSchema uses JDBC to reverse engineer schemas, run SQL, and generate documentation. Driver files are usually published by the database vendor or an open-source project.

JDBC URL format

Host, port, database name, and SSL options are passed in a URL starting with jdbc:. Each Filemaker driver uses its own syntax — see the connection details below.

The Filemaker JDBC driver

FileMaker (now Claris FileMaker) is a cross-platform relational database application from Apple subsidiary Claris, popular in small businesses, non-profits, and creative teams for building custom database applications with a visual layout designer.

The FileMaker JDBC URL

  • Required File(s): fmjdbc.jar
  • Java Driver Class: com.filemaker.jdbc.Driver
  • JDBC URL: jdbc:filemaker://HOST:2399/DB
  • Website: Filemaker

The driver archive is a zip file. Extract it and load the .jar files using DbSchema's Driver Manager.

Please write to us for any question or issues with the driver.

Connect to FileMaker

To get started with Filemaker, you can register for a trial on http://www.filemaker.com. There download and install the Filemaker Pro. After starting the application, you can choose for a starter solution. Go for the 'Tasks' solution first.

To make the database available for outside connections you should:

  • Set a connection for the 'admin' user. For this go in the File menu Manage / Security
    Configure Filemaker security
    Configure Filemaker
  • Enable JDBC Sharing:
    Enable Filemaker Sharing

FileMaker Known Issues

We couldn't find a way to reverse engineer foreign keys from Filemaker. Neither the driver DatabaseMetaData.getImportedKeys() or getExportedKeys() nor any system table, function or view does not list them. If you find a way to list them please let us know. It is also useful for us if you write to Filemaker support about this, maybe after few issues they will consider implementing a way to list them.

DbSchema and FileMaker

DbSchema connects to FileMaker using the official JDBC driver and renders table schemas and portal relationships in the ER diagram. This is especially useful for teams looking to document FileMaker schemas or migrate data to a server-based database.

Test the driver with DbSchema

Connect Filemaker, build your first ER diagram in minutes. No account required.

1
Download driver & DbSchema

Get the Filemaker driver zip below and install DbSchema for Windows, macOS, or Linux.

2
Register the .jar

In DbSchema, open Driver Manager, add the extracted JAR, and paste your JDBC URL.

3
Design & document

Reverse engineer Filemaker, edit the model visually, and publish schema documentation.

Use Filemaker visually in DbSchema

After the JDBC driver connects, you get ER diagrams, SQL editor, schema sync, and HTML documentation in one desktop app. Compare DbSchema editions.

ER diagrams

Reverse engineer Filemaker into an interactive diagram and edit structures visually.

SQL & query builder

Run SQL with autocomplete or compose queries without writing every join by hand.

Schema documentation

Export HTML docs your team can browse without installing DbSchema.
