Download the SAP Hana JDBC driver, copy the JDBC URL into DbSchema, and start designing schemas with ER diagrams — free Community Edition.
A JDBC driver is a Java .jar library that lets applications connect to SAP Hana.
DbSchema uses JDBC to reverse engineer schemas, run SQL, and generate documentation.
Driver files are usually published by the database vendor or an open-source project.
Host, port, database name, and SSL options are passed in a URL starting with jdbc:.
Each SAP Hana driver uses its own syntax — see the connection details below.
SAP HANA is an in-memory relational database and application platform designed for high-speed analytics and transactional workloads. It is the foundation for SAP S/4HANA ERP and is used by enterprises for real-time business intelligence and OLAP over live transactional data.
The driver archive is a zip file. Extract it and load the .jar files using DbSchema's Driver Manager.
HANA has no single default port. The number is derived from the two-digit instance number and from which database inside the system you want, so the value DbSchema prefills is a starting guess that usually needs changing.
3<instance><offset>. The system database
answers on 3xx13. A single-container system, and the default tenant of a
multitenant one, answers on 3xx15. Further tenants are assigned blocks starting at
3xx40, then 3xx43, then 3xx46. For instance number 00
that makes 30013 for the system database and 30015 for the first tenant.
SYSTEMDB holds the system's own catalog. Application tables live in a tenant, so a
connection to the system database shows a schema list that looks wrong. Where you are unsure of
a tenant's port, query SYS_DATABASES.M_SERVICES from the system database to list
them.
databaseName= to the URL, which lets you connect through the system database's port
and let HANA route you to the right tenant.
DbSchema connects to SAP HANA using the ngdbc JDBC driver and renders complex SAP schemas with column-store and row-store tables in the ER diagram. Use the Schema Documentation feature to generate reference docs for HANA schemas across multiple database containers.
Connect SAP Hana, build your first ER diagram in minutes. No account required.
Get the SAP Hana driver zip below and install DbSchema for Windows, macOS, or Linux.
In DbSchema, open Driver Manager, add the extracted JAR, and paste your JDBC URL.
Reverse engineer SAP Hana, edit the model visually, and publish schema documentation.
After the JDBC driver connects, you get ER diagrams, SQL editor, schema sync, and HTML documentation in one desktop app. Compare DbSchema editions.
Reverse engineer SAP Hana into an interactive diagram and edit structures visually.
Run SQL with autocomplete or compose queries without writing every join by hand.
Export HTML docs your team can browse without installing DbSchema.

Other drivers teams often configure alongside SAP Hana.
Teams working with SAP Hana often use these engines too. Explore dedicated guides and JDBC setup for each.
