Download Cassandra JDBC Driver

What are JDBC Drivers ?

JDBC drivers are Java library files with the extension .jar used by all Java applications to connect to the database. Usually they are provided by the same company which implemented the Cassandra software. DbSchema Tool already include an Cassandra driver, which is automatically downloaded when you connect to Cassandra.

What is the JDBC URL ?

Each JDBC driver is using a specific URL. The URL is a string (text) with a specific format, containing information about the host where the database is running, the port, username, database name, etc. The format is specific to each driver. Any wrong character in the URL may make the database connectivity fail, therefore we recommend to install DbSchema and try to get connected. Then you can find the right URL directly in the DbSchema connection dialog.

Driver Information

For connecting to Cassandra we wrote our own open-source JDBC driver, available on GitHub.

  • Required File(s): cassandra-driver.jar
  • Java Driver Class: com.dbschema.CassandraJdbcDriver
  • URL: jdbc:cassandra://host1[:port1][,host2[:port2],...[,hostN[:portN]]][/[keyspace][?options]]
  • Website:

The driver is wrote on top of the native Cassandra Java Driver. For connecting to multiple hosts you can pass an URL like: jdbc:cassandra://host1[:port1][,host2[:port2],...[,hostN[:portN]]][/[keyspace][?options]]

Connecting using SSL is possible setting the parameters:
This parameters can be also set in DbSchema.vmoptions file like :
# If you're using client authentication:

The driver files are compressed in a zip file. Unzip the downloaded archive to get the driver files. The driver source code can be found on GitHub repository. Check the github link for details on how to use the driver and configure SSL.

For any issues with the driver you can write us.

The driver is written on top of the standard DataStax Java driver.

Test the Driver and the JDBC URL Using DbSchema

Installing DbSchema may help to test the database connectivity and the JDBC driver URL. DbSchema can be downloaded and installed for free.

After downloading please follow this steps:

  1. 1 Select an Alias for your database connection. This will be the name of this specific connection to the database.
  2. 2 Select 'Cassandra' from the lilt of DBMS (Database Management Systems).
  3. 3 The driver for your database will be automatically downloaded for you in the folder
    • C:\Users\YourUser\.DbSchema\drivers\Cassandra (Windows) or
    • /Users/YourUser/.DbSchema/drivers/Cassandra (Linux and MacOS).
Every database can have different methods of connection. You can change them from the dropdown menu.

There are two tab you can use to connect. 'Compose URL' will ask for host, port, username, etc. and will create the JDBC URL for you.

The 'Edit URL' will let you directly enter the JDBC URL.

You can use the first tab to connect, and then see the created URL in the second tab.

Connectivity Troubleshooting

If you get problems connecting to database, please remember :
  • Press the ping button in the connection dialog to make sure the host and port are reachable.
  • Enable Remote connections as they not always enabled by default. This may require configuration changes.
  • Windows Firewall may block the communication. You may need to reconfigure or disable it.
  • Check the driver version is compatible with the database software. It may be that DbSchema provided JDBC driver is not the latest version. Please inform us in this case.
